I have a problem at the moment and it’s a nice problem to have.
I have a client’s site that has exploded with sales. Tons of enquiry and tons of sales through his web site (he makes all his sales on his web site).
The trouble is I can’t really figure out why the sudden increase. His visitor numbers have doubled when compared to the same time last year.
And sure, we’ve tweaked his site on an ongoing basis – including a fairly major change to his home page a few weeks back. But nothing I can see that would generate the big increase we’ve seen (and his product isn’t a Christmas specific product).
I’ll keep probing but the point is that when things happen in a business – whether it’s good or bad – it’s imperative that you figure out the cause. That way you can keep doing the things that work and stop the things that don’t work.
It’s the very same reason why you need to carefully monitor the effectiveness of any marketing expenditure you make. Find out what works and keep doing it. Stop wasting money on stuff that doesn’t work.
Have a big increase in sales and not knowing why is a nice problem to have. But find out why so you can keep the sales coming in.
